Overview
iChive is a platform where learners find and book tutors, and tutors manage their schedule. In 2020–2021 I worked with the founder as a freelance designer. We started from an idea brief rather than a feature list, and I designed the MVP: the UX, the UI and the design components.
The problem & solution
Learners and tutors needed a simple way to match and to agree a lesson time without back-and-forth, and the platform had to fit an MVP budget.
- Tutors found it hard to manage their schedule.
- Learners found it hard to book a lesson.
- Learners could not see when a tutor was available.
- Weekly availability that tutors set and learners book from, with time zones converted automatically.
- Tutors browsed and searched by category and skill, with ratings, reviews and hourly price on each card.
- Prepay and booking confirmation inside the same flow.
- A tutor dashboard showing booked sessions, their status, balance and session stats.

Booking a lesson in two steps.
The learner picks a slot from the tutor's weekly availability, shown in their own time zone, then prepays. The prepay screen says the tutor has 72 hours to confirm before a refund is issued, and that money is released to the tutor only after the learner confirms the lesson took place.
